Mission

The Coalition of Musicians for Ethical Change (CMEC) actively supports musicians and educators with professional development, advocacy, and the enrichment of community networks to create safe, equitable, and inclusive professional spaces.

Vision

We envision an industry in which all musicians and educators uphold a culture of respect, integrity, and accountability.

Values

Community: We believe in the wisdom of our community and strive to support it by embodying ethical behavior, enriching support networks, and resource-sharing for the good of our industry.

Trust: We believe in the capacity of each person to act in ways that support a healthy and creative work environment and that validates the lived experiences and identities of our colleagues.

Dignity: We recognize the inherent value of every person and their unique experiences.

Constructive Discourse: We practice honest and authentic communication, thoughtful dialogue, and active listening, to support positive change in our industry

Empowerment: We prioritize empowerment for our community and those we work with. We support you, and we can help connect you to resources.

To realize our mission, we engage in the following activities:

  1. Sharing best practices for cultivating ethical workplaces through multiple channels including workshops, mentorship, newsletters, social media, and working directly with interested organizations.

  2. Supporting musicians and educators in their efforts to create safe spaces for learning and working. We define safe spaces as places for individuals to grow and develop as well as environments where people can share their experiences and are supported as they navigate their next steps.

  3. Collaborating with and complementing the efforts of activists and organizations working for an industry-wide change of culture.
